Building and Linking a Metaphor: Finding Value!

[This poster was published in the proceedings of XP Conference 2008]

Abstract
Initially System Metaphor was included as one of twelve practices of Extreme Programming (XP) to facilitate participants’ common understanding and description of the problem under consideration. However, the practice was removed in the second version of XP as practitioners found it difficult to understand, devise and link it to implementation activities. This poster describes how a metaphor can be constructed and linked to development by using practices associated with Soft Systems Methodology (SSM). Initial, positive, feedback from an educational exercise is presented.

Summary Reporting for a linked Interaction Design-Scrum approach: How much Modeling is useful?

[This Poster was published in the proceedings of XP Conference 2009]

Abstract
Identifying the minimum beneficial modeling to support an agile development team is crucial. Often, story cards arranged on wall charts or spontaneously drawn diagrams provide sufficient detail to allow a team to understand an emerging problem. However, what is beneficial when another stakeholder joins the team for a short period and needs to have project background and progress reported after development has commenced? This poster reports on the models produced by a process combining aspects of Interaction Design (ID) and Scrum for internet development in such a scenario.
